Possum Pageant FAQs

What is the Miss Possum Pageant 2026?

Miss Possum is a lighthearted community pageant celebrating humor, creativity, confidence, and a healthy willingness to be a little ridiculous.

It is not a traditional beauty pageant.

Contestants compete in a series of fun and often unexpected activities, including a talent portion, group performances, and other opportunities to demonstrate their unique possum qualities.

Think county fair, variety show, community theater, and family reunion—all stirred together and served with a side of laughter.

Is this a joke?

Yes.

And no.

Miss Possum is intentionally silly, but we take our silliness very seriously.

Contestants prepare for the event, perform for an audience, and compete for the coveted title of Miss Possum. While the pageant is designed to be funny, participants are treated with respect and celebrated for their creativity and willingness to join the fun.

Why a possum?

Why not?

Possums are resilient, resourceful, misunderstood, and surprisingly lovable. They don't worry much about being glamorous, and neither do we.

Miss Possum celebrates the idea that you don't have to be perfect to be worthy of a crown.

Is this a beauty pageant?

No.

There are no swimsuit measurements, evening gown scores, or beauty standards.

Contestants are judged on participation, creativity, personality, enthusiasm, stage presence, humor, and overall possum spirit.

What is "overall possum spirit"?

You'll know it when you see it.

Who can participate?

Anyone 18 or over who is willing to embrace the spirit of Miss Possum.

No prior pageant experience is required.

In fact, it may be a disadvantage.

What kinds of talents are allowed?

Almost anything.

Singing, dancing, storytelling, clogging, banjo playing, spoon playing, dramatic readings, animal impressions, comedy routines, interpretive movement, unusual skills, and talents that are difficult to describe are all welcome.

If you're wondering whether your talent is too weird, it probably isn't.

Do contestants really have to wear overalls?

Yes.

The overalls are sacred.

Will people laugh at me?

Probably.

But not in a mean way.

Miss Possum is built around the idea of laughing together rather than laughing at anyone. The audience is there to have fun and celebrate contestants who are willing to get on stage and embrace the absurdity of the occasion.

If people are laughing, there's a good chance you're doing an excellent job.

What does the winner receive?

The title of Miss Possum.

A crown.

Bragging rights.

A basket of goodies from Hinton Outfitters.

The admiration of possum enthusiasts everywhere.

And the responsibility of serving as an ambassador for good humor, community spirit, and occasional nonsense.

Is there really a Miss Possum?

There is now.

I still don't fully understand what this is.

That's normal.

The best way to understand Miss Possum is to attend.

Once you've seen it, it will make perfect sense.

Or perhaps slightly less sense than before.
